Chris Hedges: I am in the studio of Al Jazeera’s Arabic service watching a live feed from Gaza City. The Al Jazeera reporter in northern Gaza, because of the intense Israeli shelling, was forced to evacuate to southern Gaza. He left his camera behind. He trained it at Al-Shifa Hospital, Gaza’s largest medical complex. It is night. Israeli tanks fire directly towards the hospital compound. Long horizontal red flashes. A deliberate attack on a hospital. A deliberate war crime. A deliberate massacre of the most helpless civilians, including the very sick and infants. Then the feed goes dead.
We sit in front of the monitors. We are silent. We know what this means. No power. No water. No internet. No medical supplies. Every infant in an incubator will die. Every dialysis patient will die. Everyone in the intensive care unit will die. Everyone who needs oxygen will die. Everyone who needs emergency surgery will die.
And what will happen to the 50,000 people who, driven from their homes by the relentless bombing, have taken refuge on the hospital grounds? We know the answer to that as well. Many of them, too, will die. There are no words to express what we are witnessing. In the five weeks of horror this is one of the pinnacles of horror. The indifference of Europe is bad enough. The active complicity by the United States is unfathomable. Nothing justifies this. Nothing. And Joe Biden will go down in history as an accomplice to genocide. May the ghosts of the thousands of children he has participated in murdering haunt him for the rest of his life.
Israel and the United States are sending a chilling message to the rest of the world. International and humanitarian law, including the Geneva Convention, are meaningless pieces of paper. They did not apply in Iraq. They do not apply in Gaza. We will pulverize your neighborhoods and cities with bombs and missiles. We will wantonly murder your women, children, elderly and sick. We will set up blockades to engineer starvation and the spread of infectious diseases. You, the “lesser breeds” of the earth, do not matter. To us, you are vermin to be extinguished. We have everything. If you try and take any of it away from us, we will kill you. And we will never be held accountable.
We are not hated for our values. We are hated because we have no values. We are hated because rules only apply to others. Not to us. We are hated because we have arrogated to ourselves the right to carry out indiscriminate slaughter. We are hated because we are heartless and cruel. We are hated because we are hypocrites, talking about protecting civilians, the rule of law and humanitarianism while extinguishing the lives of hundreds of people in Gaza a day, including 160 children.
Israel reacted with indignation and moral outrage when it was accused of bombing the al-Ahli Arab Christian Hospital in Gaza, which left hundreds of dead. The bombing, Israel claimed, came from an errant rocket fired by Palestine Islamic Jihad. There is nothing in the arsenal of Hamas or Islamic Jihad that could have replicated the massive explosive power of the missile that struck the hospital. Those of us who have covered Gaza have heard this Israel trope so many times it is risible. They always blame Hamas and the Palestinians for their war crimes, now attempting to argue that hospitals are Hamas command centers and therefore legitimate targets. They never provide evidence. The Israeli military and government lie like they breathe.
Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders), which has staff working in Al-Shifa, issued a statement saying patients, doctors and nurses are “trapped in hospitals under fire.” It called on the “Israeli government to cease this unrelenting assault on Gaza’s health system.”
“Over the past 24 hours, hospitals in Gaza have been under relentless bombardment. Al-Shifa hospital complex, the biggest health facility where MSF staff are still working, has been hit several times, including the maternity and outpatient departments, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries,” the statement read. “The hostilities around the hospital have not stopped. MSF teams and hundreds of patients are still inside Al-Shifa Hospital. MSF urgently reiterates its calls to stop the attacks against hospitals, for an immediate ceasefire and for the protection of medical facilities, medical staff and patients.”
Three other hospitals in northern Gaza and Gaza City are encircled by Israeli forces and tanks, in what a doctor told Al Jazeera was a “day of war against hospitals.” The Indonesian Hospital has reportedly also lost power. The U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reports that 20 of 36 hospitals in Gaza no longer function.
Israel and Washington’s cynicism is breathtaking. There are no differences in intent. Washington only wants it done quickly. Humanitarian corridors? Pauses in the shelling? These are vehicles to facilitate the total depopulation of northern Gaza. The handful of aid trucks allowed through the border at Rafah with Egypt? A public relations gimmick. There is only one goal – kill, kill, kill. The faster the better. All Biden officials talk about is what comes next once Israel has finished its decimation of Gaza. They know Israel’s slaughter will not end until Gazans are living in the open without shelter in the southern part of the strip and dying because of a lack of food, water and medical care.
Gaza before Israel’s ground incursion was one of the most densely populated spots on the planet. Imagine what will happen with 1.1 million Gazans from the north piled on top of over 1 million in the south. Imagine what will take place when infectious diseases such as cholera become an epidemic. Imagine the ravages of starvation. The pressure will build to do something. And that something, Israel hopes, will be to push the Palestinians over the border into the Sinai in Egypt. Once there, they will never return. Israel’s ethnic cleansing of Gaza will be complete. Its ethnic cleansing of the West Bank will begin.
That is Israel’s demented dream. To achieve it, they will make Gaza uninhabitable.
Ask yourself, if you were a Palestinian in Gaza and had access to a weapon what would you do? If Israel killed your family, how would you react? Why would you care about international or humanitarian law when you know it only applies to the oppressed, not the oppressors? If terror is the only language Israel uses to communicate, the only language it apparently understands, wouldn’t you speak back with terror?
Israel’s orgy of death will not crush Hamas. Hamas is an idea. This idea is fed on the blood of martyrs. Israel is giving Hamas an abundant supply.
THE REPUBLIC OF OCCLUDED FACTS
CH Exclusive Interview with UFO Whistleblower Dave Grusch
REVEALS BLACK PROJECTS, SAPs, NHIs
Are top Hollywood executives aliens?
By WALTER KIRN
Oct 21, 2023
There are also people of fundamentalist religious views who regard the matter with spiritual horror and would rather it never see the light of day. “Obviously there are some who are going to think these Non-Human Intelligences are extensions of demonic principalities.”
Once out on the trail, surrounded by granite peaks which Grusch loves to climb — as a “masochistic hobby,” I press him for details on The Program. It’s a frustrating interrogation. He swings between a boyish eagerness to share the secrets of the cosmos — “We are not alone!” “Maybe we’re like chimpanzees to them” — and recessive, disciplined discretion. At times, he falls silent in answer to my questions, but his silence reads in different ways. When I ask him, for example, if the “beings” have been with us since ancient times, he gazes off at a mountain in the distance in a matter I find enigmatically affirming.
![](https://talesfromtheconspiratum.blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/img_20211029_125718386.jpg?w=768)
His most suggestive comment of the hike, one that haunts me throughout the day, involves the cultural history of The Program. When I venture a theory that knowledge of its secrets might induce in insiders, over time, a state of cultic grandiosity, Grusch says I’m on to something, describing a “gnostic” streak in certain initiates. “We are the gatekeepers, they think.” There are also people of fundamentalist religious views who regard the matter with spiritual horror and would rather it never see the light of day. “Obviously there are some who are going to think these Non-Human Intelligences are extensions of demonic principalities.”
For lunch, we zoom off to a toy-like tourist village of art galleries and ice cream shops. Given the peculiar morning I’ve had, the walking tourists eating waffle cones seem childlike and pitiful. They appear not to know that they dwell inside a puzzle world, where recently retired spies with heads full of paradigm-destroying secrets and loaded sidearms in their pants are lurking beside them, only steps away. Or is Grusch lying to me as part of some vast government psy-op, designed to break our minds and render us helpless to further elite manipulation?
At the fancy bistro he takes me to, he orders a gourmet pizza topped with jalapenos and drizzled honey. He turns on his phone and a Google alert appears.
“The Washington Post is attacking me,” he says.
I read the piece on my own phone as we eat. It’s mostly a media story, throwing shade on the upstart News Nation cable channel for devoting so much time to NHIs after running its first big interview with Grusch. The piece accuses the channel, heaven forbid, of chasing ratings. Irked by the article’s insinuation that he is colluding in a grift, Grusch reverts to demolishing his pizza. Later, outside, he takes a phone call from a congressional aide and walks for ten minutes in circles around a park, furrowing his brow and nodding. It’s a scene from a paranoid thriller, fun to watch.
![](https://talesfromtheconspiratum.blog/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/image-23.png?w=960)
We spend the afternoon together chatting beside a bubbling mountain stream. He clues me in about the mechanics of military secrecy, shooting down the common notion that our government is too incompetent or leaky to hold back the truth about NHIs. By burying pieces of The Program inside already existing “Black Projects” and “SAPs” (Special Access Programs), the enterprise has been erased from view, even the view of many working on it, who can’t see the galaxy for the stars and planets. But surely, I say, our presidents must know, and our CIA directors and their ilk. “Not necessarily,” he says. I ask him to name the person who knows the most out of everyone who at least knows something.
He offers a guess, off the record — a formidable figure from late twentieth century politics, though it’s not among the few that I anticipated. “I’m only guessing,” he reminds me.
I tell him this style of interaction is maddening.
“Welcome to my world,” he says.
A tender issue soon arises. A recent article in The Intercept exposed a difficult moment in Grusch’s life, and used it to question his mental health. Several years ago, while living in Virginia, he fell into an alcoholic funk and muttered about committing suicide. He was then held for 72 hours in a drying-out facility. The reporter found police records of the incident after being tipped off, Grusch believes, by one of his bureaucratic foes.
He now offers me his side of the story. The drunken incident in fact occurred, he says. But he insists it wasn’t as discrediting as the writer made out to be. Like so many combat vets, he lives with a level of trauma, he explains. For a while, he treated it with booze. Strong spirits have always had a bad effect on him, acting on his system almost like “opiates,” a problem he says is common in his lineage. He sought treatment after the event and feels he’s put his low period behind him. I hear in his upbeat tone a plaintive note, one I know from my own struggles with addiction.
This is surely a flawed human being here before me, a suffering child of our indifferent universe. We are all flawed beings. But I’m convinced that his tales of his investigations with the universe of secrets, which surely does exist, is not merely an act. Earlier, recalling Afghanistan, where he identified targets for fiery death, he averred that his new mission — waking our no-longer lonesome species to the folly of seeking “feudalistic dominance” — feels redemptive, morally restorative. Though it does seem that battle excited him too.
“At heart, I’m an operator,” he told me after confessing to feeling a bit awkward wearing a suit to his congressional interview.
He gripped an imaginary weapon and swept its barrel through the air as though clearing an enemy position. His favorite allies in his wartime years? “The Germans and the Brits.” They got the job done. “And the Mongolians.” Toughest guys he knew.
We part for a couple of hours before dinner. I retreat to my motel cabin, lie down, and drift. Paranoia creeps in, possibly a manifestation of what Grusch calls “ontological shock,” which is when new thoughts and old thoughts can’t be reconciled. Do I trust his fantastic tale? Not sure. Do I trust the familiar legacy tales? Not sure. Not as much as I did yesterday.
What I trust more than ever, strangely, is Hollywood. During our long and winding conversation, Grusch shared with me certain private notions about the NHI phenomenon — the creatures may be telepathic, they may use forms of high-tech camouflage, their ships may exist in dimensions beyond our four, their bodies may be drones or avatars — which evoke familiar tropes from movies and TV shows. Are insiders at work in entertainment circles? Have monstrous secrets been seeded throughout our culture to prepare us for the coming shock? Are top Hollywood executives themselves aliens? It all seems possible.
We’re joined at dinner by Jessica, Grusch’s wife of seven years, a former Air Force nurse from Akron, Ohio who served in Afghanistan herself. She’s quietly humorous, polite, possessed of perfect posture, and stoically tough-minded in a way that reminds me of my late mother, also a nurse from the Akron area. I find her presence balancing and calming.
I sense this young couple has faced some novel challenges, not least her husband’s evolution from a lethal, locked-on soldier-spy to a messenger of wild, disruptive truths. “It’s definitely been a journey!” says Jessica. One theme at dinner is Grusch’s obsessive streak: he reveals that he’s been diagnosed as “slightly autistic” and acknowledges having trouble with social niceties such as “remembering people’s birthdays.” He shoots his wife a bashful glance and she returns a forgiving one. When it is time for dessert, they both demur — counting their calories, American style — but then they relent, being naughty, and order cake.
After dinner, I watch them drive off into the dark, up to their house on a ridge beneath the stars. “I always complete my missions,” Grusch said tonight, sawing into his thick steak. “I’ll complete this one too,” he pledged. And I believed him.
I believed he’s a young man who won’t — who can’t — turn back.
How Walter Kirn’s encounter with psychopathy changed his worldview

The man who calls himself Clark Rockefeller at his arraignment on kidnapping charges on Sept. 29, 2008, in Boston.
How Walter Kirn’s encounter with psychopathy changed his worldview
For twenty years German immigrant Christian Gerhartsreiter pretended to be a Rockefeller. He befriended novelist and essayist Walter Kirn, who ended up writing a memoir about their friendship, and how it all fell apart: Blood Will Out: The True Story of a Murder, a Mystery, and a Masquerade, published in 2014.
I hadn’t heard of the story until watching this interview with Kirn.
When talking about Gerhartsreiter, he says something very revealing. It’s an experience many have upon an encounter with evil. When the psychopathic mask falls, when you get a glimpse of the reality behind the carefully crafted PR image, it can change your worldview. Kirn shifted from what we might call a “common psychological worldview” into one more objective, more in line with reality in all its complexity — and with hints of the “supernatural.”
I’ve transcribed the relevant segment in full (but I recommend watching the interview if you have the time — Kirn is a fascinating guy and recently wrote a column on the day he spent talking with UAP whistleblower David Grusch):
Kirn: It’s the greatest story ever. It’s the story of my real-life friendship with this conman who pretended to be a Rockefeller and who I thought was an actual Rockefeller. He was based in New York City at first and turns out to have been a serial killer, basically, maybe not quite a serial killer, but he killed two people in cold blood. Cut one of them up, and buried him in his yard. He’s certainly what they used to call the thrill killer, kind of a Nietzschean person who decided to kill to show his strength and moral superiority — or amoral superiority.
Interviewer: “I’m the main character, and here’s how I’m gonna prove it.”
Kirn: Exactly. So anyway, I think I know where you’re going with this. This guy who was named Christian Gerhartsreiter, but pretended to be Clark Rockefeller, was as close to a demonic being as I’ve ever encountered. And as I examined him, once he came out, once he was caught for these murders and then tried, and I went forensically back through our relationship and back through his life, studying him, trying to figure out who he was, why I believed him, how he appealed to people, how he pulled off the con, I probably couldn’t have come up with a better thesis than “this guy is possessed,” you know, possessed maybe by emptiness, maybe not by an affirmative spirit of evil, but by a absolute vacuum of good.
So when you spend your time studying a character like that, the notion that there are beings that can possess human beings, evil forces and so on, gets a lot more credible. The psychological model of evil breaks down. You find out — You know, when I would give readings from this book people would say to me, “What do you think happened to him when he was a kid that caused him to become this coldblooded killer who could cut people up, bury him in the ground, and then throw a party on the mound?” Which he did. And I said, “Nothing happened to him when he was a kid.” Do you know what he did as a kid? He used to blow pepper into other kids’ eyes for fun. He used to go around the town where he lived and switch out the road signs so people would get lost trying to find the next town. He was always that way. He was born that way.
Interviewer: I mean it’s incredible … What I think really separates this book from … true crime is the way that you wrestle with how easily you were deceived and how that kind of relationship between the demonic and the deceptive (Kirn: Yeah.) is so powerful. Even when you know, it’s not like you feel the spirals developing in your eyes and you feel yourself being sort of overpowered, it can really be insidious and just kind of pull you in. You’re not even realizing what’s going on until it is maybe too late.
Kirn: Well, I mean, Silence of the Lambs I never thought was a documentary until I met this guy. I remember after he was convicted of murder and I went to see him in the downtown LA men’s lockup, I’d known him as Clark Rockefeller, now he’d been tried for murder, and found guilty, we knew that everything he did was a fraud, and he comes into the other side of this plastic window and I’m going to see him for the first time knowing who he really is, having last seen him literally in like a New York or a Boston club room —
Interviewer: This is a big movie scene, like the big moment.
Kirn: Exactly, and he comes up and he’s got his prison gown on, his orange jumpsuit or whatever it was, and he sits down on the other side of this plastic window and we both pick up these heavy phones, and the meeting is timed so the phones are on for exactly 30 minutes, and when he picks up his and I pick up mine, there’s still not a connection, so we’re just staring at each other through this glass. And he’s a little mousy-looking guy, let’s put it that way, squinty eyes, not particularly friendly looking, and the minute the phone comes on he says, “Hello, Walter. How are your children?” And I was just, wow, you know, is he imitating evil or has he been watching movies? Could he be any scarier?
And I think that in that moment and in the moments I spent interacting with them afterwards, I moved to a whole new thesis about human evil, which is that it is an affirmative thing. It’s not just the lack of goodness. There are people who — beings who actually want to frighten, want to control, have inverted every ethic and moral principle such that they have taken on this kind of power, and to describe it as demonic is probably not inaccurate.
And finally, talking to Dave Grusch about NHI [non-human intelligences], he really affirmed to me that at least in many cases they seem to resemble psychic beings, ghosts, interdimensional entities more than they do tall, thin, big-eyed, bug-like creatures. That was a weird thought.
Interviewer: I mean, we have an elite that will not take seriously and will not talk publicly about satanic anything, demonic anything. It doesn’t exist. And then you look at what’s going on in the countryside, what’s going on with ordinary people — I mean, people can’t get enough of this content, whether they’re mystified by it, horrified by it, the presence of evil in American life is just really a resonant topic. And it’s just the gulf between those in charge and those who are ruled on this topic, it seems so vast.
Kirn: So another funny story about Clark Rockefeller. One of the friends of one of his victims had grown up to become a Space Command officer, Army Space Command before there was Space Force. And I took him out to dinner. He testified at the trial about his friend who’d been killed. The friend was a JPL, jet propulsion laboratory, Explorer Scout, and the friend had died, and this guy had gone on and sort of lived the Star Trek life, become an officer, maybe he was a colonel in the Army’s space program.
And I said, “So what do you think of Clark Rockefeller? What do you think of this killer?” The guy had had a couple of drinks and he said, “Everything that needs to be explained can be explained in a Star Trek episode somewhere. And this guy resembles ‘Jack the Ripper’ character in a Star Trek episode who is a sort of formation of energy that travels through the universe and coalesces in various evil characters throughout history and then, after he’s committed his murder, he disperses again only to incarnate somewhere else.” And this was a scientist, a military man, and his best explanation for the nature of this murderer was that he was some incorporeal demonic entity who had taken physical form. So even among elite thinkers, and people of power, the notion that we’re dealing with something other than psychological dysfunction exists.
Interviewer: Yeah, that’s interesting. I mean this kind of thematic stuff pops up in Twin Peaks, too, of course. (Kirn: Right!)1 The Air Force guy who’s sort of one of the heroes, and has the secret info. Yeah, I don’t think this stuff is going away anytime soon. So how do you keep a smile on your face?
Kirn: Well, you keep a smile on your face by aligning yourself with the other powers. I remember when The Exorcist was a big movie and I was a child. I was afraid to watch it, and there were all these stories of people fainting and becoming possessed themselves and so on. I talked to a priest who lived in our small town, and he said, “Well, you know, you just have to pray, you just have to be a good person, you have nothing to fear from these forces.” And I think that’s still true today. Evil exists in the world, we’ve been seeing it everywhere this week, we’re seeing it on our phones, we’re seeing a kind of evil being played out in the Middle East that is Medieval at best, and how do we keep a smile on our face? Well, by clinging to the better angels.
In a weird way, if you know evil exists it gives you a motive to really seek out the protection of the good and of the best and to cling to the highest principles you can find. I don’t think that just living a completely secular life, a completely scientific and, I don’t know, rationalist, positivist life, is an option anymore for us. I mean it may be for some people, but the idea that we’re just in some kind of terrible social psychology experiment in which some people act out and other people are more functional doesn’t seem to describe the situation anymore. I think that the dark and light battle is starting to be very easily perceived and it requires you to line up.

Historically, the U.S. has been the largest carbon emitter, releasing 422 billion metric tons of CO₂ into the atmosphere since the Industrial Revolution. This is equivalent to almost a quarter of all CO₂ produced from fossil fuels and industrial activities.
Given their massive populations and the fact that countries typically increase their emissions as they become more developed, China and India may continue to grow their shares even further.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) forecasts that India’s share of global emissions could rise to 10% by 2030.
All of these major contributors of carbon to the atmosphere have set goals to reduce emissions over the next decades.
While the U.S. targets net-zero emissions by 2050, China aims for carbon neutrality by 2060 and India recently set a target of 2070.
The annual cost of government borrowing has doubled in the past 19 months
This is dangerous because the US, historically, goes to war when it needs more money. If the world would call in the US debt, the US would collapse as it is bankrupt.

US interest payments on its national debt are estimated to have surged above $1 trillion on an annualized basis as of the end of October, according to a Bloomberg report this week.
The calculations were based on US Treasury data, which discloses the government’s monthly outstanding debt balances and the average sum of interest it pays.
The annualized cost of debt has doubled in the past 19 months as rising interest rates have made borrowing more expensive and represented 15.9% of the entire federal budget for fiscal year 2022 as of last month, the outlet said.
“This high proportion of interest payments as a share of federal spending has precedent, as the portion before 2000 was over 14% in most years,” Bloomberg analysts wrote in a note.

“The challenge for the government is tempering mandatory spending and trying to reduce the need to issue more debt. That’s the reason we see interest payments climbing even though we forecast lower Treasury yields.”
Concerns are mounting over US fiscal policy amid massive government borrowing and soaring interest payments on the debt pile, the outlet noted. The worsening dynamics already led Fitch Ratings agency to downgrade US government debt in August.

While armies of Hamas supporters march through the streets of open-border European countries, tens of thousands of Polish citizens are peacefully marching through Warsaw to celebrate Independence Day.
Poland stands out as one of the few countries refusing to open its borders to Islamic migrants. Despite EU pressure, Poland has consistently rejected the demand to accept hordes of illegal and incompatible invaders, saying no to Islam.
The nation has resisted individuals like Soros, who advocate transforming all nations into “multicultural” societies. However, Poland is currently under attack following the latest elections, where the conservative ruling party experienced a setback.
Although the Law and Justice party secured more votes than any other single party in the parliamentary election, it lost its majority and won’t hold enough seats to govern.
Poland’s future is now in jeopardy. Let it not succumb to becoming an Islamic state like many other European countries.
Who controls global wealth?

Nov 11, 2023
In 2022, the world’s millionaires held nearly half of net household wealth. Decades of low-interest rates led equities and real estate values to soar, and these assets are disproportionately held among the world’s wealthiest.
While a steep rise in interest rates decreased these fortunes in 2022, the share of wealth controlled by the global millionaire population remains substantial.
In the graphic below, Visual Capitalist’s Dorothy Neufeld and Christina Kostandi show the distribution of global household wealth, based on the annual 2023 UBS Global Wealth Report.

The Distribution of Global Wealth
Worldwide net private wealth stood at $454.4 trillion in 2022.
Here’s how it was distributed across various levels of net worth, which takes a person’s financial and real assets such as housing, and subtracts their debt:
![](https://assets.zerohedge.com/s3fs-public/styles/inline_image_mobile/public/inline-images/2023-11-09_14-52-00.jpg?itok=j-GwSCCx)
The highest wealth rung controls $208.3 trillion in wealth or 45.8% of the global total. Just 1.1% of the world’s adult population falls in this bracket.
Those with $100,000 to $1 million have the next greatest share, at 39.4% of net household wealth.
We can see that wealth ownership begins to decline dramatically in the next bracket. People with $10,000 to $100,000 control just 13.6% of global wealth. However, the number of people in the global middle class has more than doubled over the last two decades, driven by the rapid expansion of China.
Interestingly, the lowest segment of wealth has shrunk considerably since 2000. Between 2000 and 2022, it fell from 80.7% to 52.5% of the global population and is projected to keep decreasing. Despite this, the total share of wealth controlled by this rung is just 1.2% of the global total.
Future Outlook
By 2027, global wealth is estimated to reach $629 trillion. Here’s the forecast for how wealth distribution is set to evolve:

The continued Israeli military campaign in Gaza has devastated the Palestinian enclave’s healthcare system and has led to heavy losses among the civilian population, including children, the head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, told the UN Security Council on Friday.
Since the start of the Israeli operation on October 7, the WHO has verified more than 250 attacks on the healthcare system in Gaza and the West Bank, including medical facilities, ambulances and patients, Ghebreyesus said, adding that the medical system in Gaza was “on its knees.” A total of 25 attacks on healthcare targets in Israel were reported over the same period, he added.
The situation in the Palestinian enclave is “impossible to describe,” the WHO chief said, adding that around 1.5 million people had to leave their homes, with tens of thousands of them having to seek shelter in hospitals and schools, which inevitably become overcrowded.
People are looking for shelter “anywhere they can find it,” Ghebreyesus said, adding that “nowhere and no one is safe” in Gaza. The Israeli bombardments and airstrikes, as well as the ongoing ground operation, have resulted in more than 10,800 deaths in Gaza, Ghebreyesus said. Most of those killed were women and children, he added.
Too many Palestinians have died – Blinken
The WHO chief also relayed a stark statistic: “On average, a child is killed every ten minutes in Gaza.”
Israel maintained it was making efforts to ease the humanitarian crisis in the Palestinian enclave. Its ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, told the Security Council on Friday that his nation had created a special task force to establish hospitals in the southern part of the enclave.
“Israel is in advanced talks with the United Arab Emirates, with the ICRC and with other European countries regarding the establishment of field-hospital and floating-hospital ships,” the diplomat stated, adding that West Jerusalem had also “facilitated the Jordanian airdrop of medical aid to hospitals in northern Gaza.”
Erdan then said that Israel was supposedly doing more for Gaza than the WHO itself or any other UN body, for that matter.
Washington –West Jerusalem’s key ally– admitted on Friday that the Israeli actions had resulted in a massive number of casualties in Gaza. “Far too many” Palestinians have died in Israel’s retaliatory campaign against the Gaza-based Hamas militant group, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Friday. The US has been seeking to convince Israel to introduce longer “humanitarian pauses,” in particular to facilitate humanitarian aid deliveries to the enclave.
