Herodotus, the Greek historian and geographer who is often referred to as ‘The Father of History’, wrote in the fifth century BC – roughly 2,500 years ago – about a network of underground tunnels in Giza.
The legend of the chamber lying beneath the Sphinx is thousands of years old. For generations, historians believed that some hidden heritage of the Egyptian civilization lies there. Sputnik can finally reveal the secrets of the ancient statue…
Most people have probably heard the riddle “What creature walks on four feet in the morning, two feet in the afternoon and three feet at night?” The puzzle was posed to Oedipus when Thebes was being tormented by the Sphinx, and when Oedipus answered correctly that the creature was man (crawling when a baby, walking upright when an adult and needing the help of a stick in old age), Thebes was saved and Oedipus was made its king, marrying in the process the newly widowed Jocasta, who turned out to be his mother.
This tragic tale was turned into a play – Oedipus Tyrannus – by the Greek dramatist Sophocles but in this case, the Sphinx is legendary as having the body of a lion, wings and a female head, a far cry from the massive Egyptian statue with which we are now so familiar. Furthermore, the Egyptian Sphinx’s puzzles are much more mysterious.
A Century Old Scoop
Scientists have recently managed to unravel its mysteries. For many years, no one knew how the Egyptians built such a vast structure. Scholars at New York University have worked out that it was the wind that helped the ancient sculptors.
The monument was originally a monolith (a single rock). Because of exposure to the air, the soft outer layer of limestone was gradually dispersed, eventually exposing solid rock. Later, craftsmen carved the sphinx’s features – torso, paws, and its graceful head.
But delve a bit deeper and things become rather more complicated: connoisseurs of the weird and wonderful have been obsessing for ages what lies beneath the structure. Some believe that there are underground vaults housing great Egyptian treasures a so-called Hall of Records or a “crypt of civilization”.
Naturally, the Internet is rife with speculation and the online community really came alive when drone footage showed small holes with doors on the head and back of the Sphinx.
It turned out that the drone footage was not quite as groundbreaking after all: Émile Baraize, a French Egyptologist and director of works at the Egyptian Antiquities Service, alerted the world to these holes almost a century ago, after conducting extensive excavations and restoration at the site between 1925 and 1936.
Baraize discovered that the hole on top was meant for a crown or some other headwear to be mounted and it led to a dead end. The hatch in the back led to a small empty chamber.
The Frenchman kept numerous detailed diaries with drawings but did not publish any of them and that is one reason speculation has never abated.
The legend concerning the Hall of Records has been around for millennia and there is the suggestion that it is not the Sphinx that should be explored but rather its immediate surroundings.
Several wall records covering Egyptian temples have been deciphered to disclose that Thoth (the ancient Egyptian god of wisdom) gathered all existing knowledge and hid it somewhere in the valley of the pyramids.
Herodotus, the Greek historian and geographer who is often referred to as ‘The Father of History’, wrote in the fifth century BC – roughly 2,500 years ago – about a network of underground tunnels in Giza. This allegation was later explored by neo-Platonic philosophers such as Iamblichus (245/280 to 325/330 A.D.) in his work ‘De Mysteriis’ (‘On the Mysteries’ [of the Egyptians, Chaldeans, and Assyrians]). It was further embraced by the members of the Hermes Trismegistus secret society in the Early Middle Ages.
However, it was Coptic legends written down by Arab travellers that gave the greatest credibility to the secret room. The tales say that the interconnected underground passages dug down from the three pyramids, lead to a single vast crypt – between the paws of the Great Sphinx.
Getting there is no simple task. The entrance is guarded by keeper statues, which kill the intruders.
Archaeologists during the 18th and 19th centuries from all over the world tried to get there – not a single one succeeded.
The 20th century changed everything: Edgar Cayce, an American clairvoyant, gained incredible popularity in the Thirties by entering into a trance – leading to his being known as ‘The Sleeping Prophet’ – and attaining a higher state of existence during which he would be possessed by spirits who would “answer questions on a variety of subjects such as healing, reincarnation, the afterlife, past lives, Atlantis, and the future”.
Many of Cayce’s contemporaries were skeptical since most of his “predictions” often fell flat.
The medium supposedly looked into the Hall of Records under one of the sphinx’s paws. He revealed that the crypt contained the legacy of Atlantis, the legendary advanced civilization that eventually fell foul of the gods and was swallowed by the Atlantic Ocean.
Not The Whole Truth
For decades, Cayce’s pronouncements were taken with more than a pinch of salt. But in 1989, (43 years after Cayce’s death in 1945) Japanese scientists from Waseda University in Tokyo excavated the paws of the sphinx and found a small tunnel under the left one, about three or four meters deep.
Shortly after, American geophysicist Thomas Dobecki conducted a seismological scan and discovered that the corridor led to sealed chambers. However, the Egyptian authorities intervened and banned all further research in the area near the monument.
Like the Sphinx herself, the nearer one seems to get to the mystery of the monument, the further the truth recedes, forever eluding inspection.
However, a few years later Zahi Abass Hawass – an Egyptian archaeologist, Egyptologist, and former Minister of State for Antiquities Affairs – stepped in and adopted a creative approach. Since it is impossible to dig in the vicinity of the Sphinx, he has illuminated the whole area with geodetic radar.
Thanks to his intervention, it has now been revealed that there is, in fact, a small network of galleries and chambers underground. But, greatly to the chagrin of adventurers, they are all empty. The radar has not picked up any solid object.
But Hawass has always maintained that Egypt’s secrets are endless – perhaps the mystery of The Hall of Records is still waiting to be revealed.
Initial analysis has revealed that the samples contain “clayey and marine materials and seafood.” The research team believes that these results suggest that human activity was present on the boat-shaped mound between 5,500 and 3,000 BC.
The archaeologists excavating a geological formation in Turkey have aged rock and soil samples that they think contain ruins of the ark. The project began in 2021 and is still ongoing.

According to the Bible, Noah’s Ark settled on the “mountains of Ararat” in Turkey after a flood that lasted 150 days drowned the Earth and every living thing on it that wasn’t aboard the ark.
The geological formation located in the Dogubayazit district of Agri has been a potential site since it was discovered in 1956. Mount Ararat is the highest peak in Turkey, standing 16,500 feet tall and in the same shape as an ark would be.
Noah’s Ark was said to measure “300 cubits, 50 cubits, by 30 cubits.” which translates to up to 515 feet long, 86 feet wide and 52 feet high.
A team of researchers led by Istanbul Technical University (ITU), Agri Ibrahim Cecen University (AICU) and Andrew University have been working at the site for nearly one year. The researchers are collecting samples that they think could hold the key to confirming the Biblical story.
The ruins, which allegedly belong to “Noah’s Ark,” were discovered by expert cartographer Captain Ilhan Durupinar in 1959 in the land between Telceker and Uzengili villages of Dogubayazit.
Giant fissures have formed in the ruins, which are under increasing threat of landslides every year.
The “Mount Ararat and Noah’s Ark Research Team” was established in cooperation between AICU and ITU for scientific research on the ruins, whose structure was damaged due to several landslides.
The group, which is made up of academics who specialize in geophysics, chemistry and geoarchaeology research, gathered at least 30 samples, including soil and rock fragments during their investigations in the region. The samples gathered from the remains were sent to ITU laboratories for closer examination.
AICU Vice Rector Professor Faruk Kaya said that based on the first findings that the team obtained from the studies, there have been signs of human activities in the region “since the Chalcolithic period between the years 5500 and 3000 BC.”
Experts know that the flood of Prophet Noah went back at least 5,000 years. Kaya added that in terms of dating, there is proof of life in this region, which was revealed in the laboratory results.
However, Kaya added that it is not possible to say that the ship is at the site with the dating and that the archaeological team will need more time to find out more information.
Expert claims Mount Ararat is the wrong location
Dr. Andrew Snelling, an Earth creationist with a Ph.D. from the University of Sydney, has previously said that Mount Ararat could not be the ark’s location because the mountain did not form until after the flood waters receded.
While the flood is considered a historical event, most scholars and archaeologists do not believe in literally interpreting the Ark story.
According to the Bible, God commanded Noah to build an enormous ark that could save himself, his family and a representation of all the world’s animals.
The wickedness and corruption of man resulted in God’s vows to send a great cleansing flood. Because God deemed Noah to be the only righteous man worth saving, he commanded him to build the ark.
The book of Genesis states that when Noah completed his task, God sent “two of every sort” of animal to the ark. The flood waters rose until all mountains were covered, and life, except fish, was destroyed.

This past weekend, a number of incredible new discoveries were announced, from the latest excavations at the 11-12,000-year-old Tas Tepeler sites of Gobekli Tepe and Karahan Tepe in Turkey.
Considering their age, each new discovery is absolutely stunning in its own right, and in this video, I’m going to break it all down. We have a 7-foot 6-inch human statue, a vulture statue, as well as a new enclosure at Karahan Tepe. We also have an incredible painted wild boar statue from Enclosure D at Gobekli Tepe. Watch this video to learn more and to see some fantastic photos and footage.
I am so excited about some of the incredible archaeological discoveries that are being made in the land of Israel. In our time, we get to see ancient locations that literally haven’t been seen for centuries. But even more importantly, many of the discoveries that are being made in the land of Israel confirm important details of Biblical accounts. In particular, some of the things that archaeologists have found at the ancient city of Shiloh are absolutely amazing. But first, I want to discuss the excavation work that has been happening at the Pool of Siloam. Ancient steps that Jesus literally stepped on are being uncovered for the first time in nearly 2,000 years, and the site will soon be open to the general public. The following comes from Fox News…
A new excavation project in Jerusalem has unearthed steps unseen in over 2,000 years at a place where the New Testament records Jesus as having healed a blind man.
The Israel Antiquities Authority, the Israel National Parks Authority and the City of David Foundation early this year announced that the Pool of Siloam, a biblical site cherished by Christians and Jews, will be open to the public for the first time in 2,000 years in the near future.
In recent weeks, archeologists achieved significant progress in the excavation, unearthing some eight steps descending into the Pool which had not been seen in 2,000 years — around the time when Jesus walked the earth.
I have read the account of Jesus at the Pool of Siloam countless times.
But I never imagined that any of us would ever get the chance to actually be there.
As you can see from the video below, the steps that they are excavating are remarkably well preserved…
I would love to visit this site someday and see all that they have uncovered.
But it could be argued that the discoveries that archaeologists are making at Shiloh are even more amazing.
It would be difficult to overstate the important of Shiloh. Prior to the time of King David, it had been ancient Israel’s most important city for centuries, and it was also the location where the Tabernacle stood…
“The city of Shiloh, located in the heart of the Biblical hill country, became the first capital of Israel shortly after the conquest of Canaan around 1400 BC.
“The city was the cultural, religious, and political centre of the nation.
“Therefore, it was here that Israel pitched the Tabernacle and here the Ark of the Covenant dwelt before it was put into the Temple in Jerusalem at the time of Solomon.”
Dr. Scott Stripling is the director of excavation at Shiloh, and during a recent interview with CBN he shared evidence that indicates that his team has been uncovering the precise location where the Tabernacle once stood…
We asked Stripling if he believed they’d actually found the Tabernacle. He answered, “I’m not ready to say I know for certain, but I’ll tell you what we do have is a building that is matching the dimensions of the Tabernacle. It’s from the Iron One period, which is the Tabernacle period of Eli and Samuel, and you’re actually standing right now, Chris, on this wall right here.”
“So this entire area is this massive, monumental building. (It) orients east-west and it’s divided on 2 to 1 ratio, like the Tabernacle was,” Stripling explained.
I was absolutely stunned when I first read that.
But there is more.
According to Professor Tom Meyer, a series of holes in the bedrock that could have supported the posts of the Tabernacle have been discovered.
In addition, three stone horns “that once adorned three of the four corners of the horned altar in the Tabernacle” have been also found…
Professor Meyer said: “This area, known as the ‘Tabernacle Plateau’, is sufficiently large enough to house the 150’x75’ Tabernacle courtyard.
“Archaeologists found small cavities hewn into the bedrock of the plateau at intervals; these were perhaps postholes used to support the wooden poles of the outer Tabernacle fence.
“Nearby, archaeologists also discovered three stone horns that once adorned three of the four corners of the horned altar in the Tabernacle courtyard.”
Wow.
I really do not understand why all of this has not been getting more attention.
On top of everything else, there are the countless animal bones that are still waiting to be fully excavated.
The presence of these animal bones is very strong evidence that this was a place where animal sacrifices were done on a very large scale…
As we stood over the site, Stripling said, “This is unexcavated, underneath your feet, and my feet is about (4 feet) of solid bone, waiting to be excavated. Bone on top of bone, on top of bone. And we have micros stratigraphy in this area so we can see that the deposition is laid down over a long period of time, just like the Bible says.”
When asked what kind of bones would be found there, he replied, “Sheep, goat, cow – and disproportionately from the right side of the animal.”
The workers had uncovered, just that morning, jaw bones coming from the right side of the animals.
“Why is the right side so significant?” he asked. “Well, the priests are the ones who live here, and Leviticus 7 tells us that the right side of the animal is the priest’s portion. So, I can’t make this stuff up. You know, you got a hundred thousand bones and they’re disproportionate. Give me another explanation. It just happens to coordinate with what the Bible says.”
In the video that I have posted below, you can watch Dr. Stripling discuss some of these remarkable discoveries…
The things that I have shared with you in this article are incredible, but we continue to wait for the biggest archaeological bombshell of all.
I believe that in our time the discovery of the Ark of the Covenant will be publicly revealed.
The Temple Institute has openly admitted that they know exactly where it is, and once the discovery of the Ark is finally made public everything will change.
So keep a very close eye on the land of Israel, because the discoveries that have been announced so far are just the tip of the iceberg.

(Natural News) A team of Chinese archaeologists uncovered ten handcrafted wooden braziers at an ancient burial site in the Pamir Mountains. These religious-style incense burners can be dated as far back as 1,000 BC. The incense burners were collected from eight tombs in Western China’s 2,500 year old Jirzankal cemetery. They contained traces of burnt seed.
Ancient Chinese mourned the dead using high-THC cannabis strains
The contents of the burners were analyzed via mass spectrometry by researchers from the Max Planck Institute in Germany. The wooden braziers were found to contain a special strain of cannabis with a high THC concentration. This is the first piece of historical evidence showing that the ancient Chinese discovered, bred and/or traded cannabis for recreational and ceremonial use. At this time in history, societal elites got high to supposedly connect with ancestors or the gods. After testing the burnt strains, the scientists found a high concentration of cannabinol, a substance produced when THC is oxidized.
“There has been a longstanding debate over the origins of cannabis smoking, there are many speculative claims of ancient use,” said Robert Spengler at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History. “This study provides the earliest unambiguous evidence for both elevated chemical production in the plant and also for the burning of the plant as a drug.”
Most cannabis residues uncovered by scientists up until this point was discovered to have a low THC content. The discovery of this high THC strain could indicate that Chinese farmers were aware of the euphoric properties of this phyto-chemical and knew how to breed cannabis for recreational purposes.
Scientists conclude that the cannabis was burnt in an enclosed space, in a mountain tomb, which allowed mourners to get high back in their day. Because the cannabis was found in wooden braziers closely associated with the Zoroastrian religion, archaeologists concur that the cannabis was used as part of religious activities. The ancient Chinese believed that the euphoric feeling could connect you with ancestors and the divine.
“Nearly all the braziers contain the bio-markers of cannabis and one brazier is severely burned, implying that the braziers were being used during funeral rituals, possibly to communicate with nature, or spirits or deceased people,” noted Yimin Yang at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing.
Megan Cifarelli, an art historian at Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York, noted that the cannabis burning in tombs served another purpose as well: masking the smell of decaying corpses.
Of course, these societies also took advantage of hemp’s other valuable uses. The hemp plant has been used by various societies over the past 4,000 years to make ropes, cloth, paper and oil. The cannabis found in this study could have been traded along the Silk Road, a trading route that once extended from East Asia to South Asia, Persia, the Arabian Peninsula, East Africa and Southern Europe. This passage enabled the Chinese to trade silk, spices, grains, apples, pistachios, walnuts and other crops from the East to the West.
“I think with this new study we can now actually place Cannabis in that list as well as being one of these crops that originates on these ancient trade routes,” commented Robert Spengler of the Max Planck Institute. The archaeologists also uncovered glass beads, wooden plates and bowls, pieces of silk, and a Chinese harp in the mountain tombs.
This is for the benefit of those that haven’t yet seen the subsurface radar scan of Gobekli Tepe. The above image is from Deitrich et al., Antiquity vol. 86 (2012), freely available on the internet.
The little portion of Gobekli Tepe so far excavated corresponds to the detailed portion of the map, bottom right, which includes the main circular enclosures A to D. As you can see, even Enclosure D, the oldest and largest enclosure yet uncovered, corresponding to the uppermost green circle is small relative to some of the remaining structures.
The structure right in the middle of the plot looks especially interesting – being nearly twice the diameter of enclosure D. Considering the progression of these structures – they seem to get larger as they get older – perhaps this central enclosure is the ‘heart’ of Gobekli Tepe, and will reveal a great deal more about its function and purpose.
But some of the other structures remaining in the ground also look to be massive. Quite possibly, we have only scratched the surface of Gobekli Tepe so far, and the main event remains to be excavated.
Across the entire MENA region and other parts of the world, there are rumored to be a number of archeological anomalies that hints to the existence of an advanced prehuman civilization that flourished long before modern civilization as we know it began. These anomalies come in the form of gateways and are said to not only have the ability to open a bridge to other worlds, but also parallel realities. The question is, how much of this is true?
The Bamiyan Buddhas were destroyed by an intolerant sect pretending to follow Islam. Buddhism all across Asia grieved. The West hardly paid attention.
The remaining ruins of Babylon, and the attached museum, were occupied, plundered and vandalized by a US Marine base during Shock and Awe in 2003. The West paid no attention.
Vast tracts of Palmyra – a legendary Silk Road oasis – were destroyed by another intolerant sect pretending to follow Islam with their backs covered by layers of Western “intelligence”. The West paid no attention.
Scores of Catholic and Orthodox churches in Syria were burnt to the ground by the same intolerant sect pretending to follow Islam with their backs sponsored and weaponized, among others, by the US, Britain, and France. The West paid no attention whatsoever.
Notre-Dame, which in many ways can be construed as the Matrix of the West, is partially consumed by a theoretically blind fire.
Especially the roof; hundreds of oak beams, some dating back to the 13th century. Metaphorically, this could be interpreted as the burning of the roof over the West’s collective heads.
Bad karma? Finally?
* * *
Now back to the nitty-gritty.
Notre-Dame belongs to the French state, which had been paying little to no attention to a gothic jewel that traversed eight centuries.
Fragments of arcades, chimeras, reliefs, gargoyles were always falling to the ground and kept in an improvised deposit in the back of the cathedral.
Only last year Notre-Dame got a check for 2 million euros to restore the spire – which burned to the ground yesterday.
To restore the whole cathedral would have cost 150 million euros, according to the top world expert on Notre-Dame, who happens to be an American, Andrew Tallon.
Recently, the custodians of the cathedral and the French state were actually at war.
The French state was making at least 4 million euros a year, charging tourists to enter the Twin (Bell) Towers but putting back only 2 million euros for the maintenance of Notre-Dame.
The rector of Notre-Dame refused to charge for a ticket to enter the cathedral – as it happens, for example, at the Duomo in Milan.
Notre-Dame basically survives on donations – which pay the salaries of only 70 employees who need not only to supervise the masses of tourists but also to organize eight masses a day.
The French state’s proposal to minimize the ordeal; organize a beneficent lottery. That is; privatize what is a state commitment and obligation.
So yes: Sarkozy and Macron, their whole administrations, are directly and indirectly responsible for the fire.
Now comes the Notre-Dame of Billionaires.
Pinault (Gucci, St. Laurent) pledged 100 million euros from his personal fortune for the restoration. Arnault (Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy) doubled down, pledging 200 million euros.
So why not privatize this damn fine piece of real estate – disaster capitalism-style? Welcome to Notre-Dame luxury condo, hotel, and attached mall.
The enigmatic 3,000-year-old vignette from the Djedkhonsuiefankh funerary papyrus found on display in the Cairo Museum illustrates an uncanny scene: a disc-shaped object, depicted as being extremely bright, with a landing gear deployed on top of a Sphinx.
Could this really be an alien UFO?
Alien hunters believe this is the ultimate evidence there is a deep connection between Ancient Egypt and otherworldly beings.
The object seen on top of the Sphinx is unlike any other “boat“ seen in ancient Egyptian mythology.
In fact, it’s unlike anything previously seen in their iconography or symbolism.
There are similar depictions of alleged flying machines at the temple of Seti I, but these have been debunked as being the result of palimpsest.
The curious object seen in the vignette from the Djedkhonsuiefankh funerary papyrus was painted by the ancients as a Disc that radiates extremely bright light, and when you take a look at modern-day depictions of UFOs, it kinda looks exactly how people would describe a UFO today.
This ancient papyrus—you can see it here—is featured in a study titled: Cosmic Space and Archetypal Time, Depictions of the sky-goddess Nut in three royal tombs of the New Kingdom and the relation to the Milky Way, by Amanda-Alice Maravelia.
And if we take a close look at the ancient manuscript, it’s clear that it is a disc-shaped object which has a radiating dome on top. It is depicted as having ‘landed’ on the Sphinx, with three leg-like tripods seen protruding from the object.
But what makes the Sphinx so special? And what if this really is a UFO—and not a plant or some sort of bug?
Yup, could be a plant-flower, or even some sort of but? Right? What if there is another explanation as to what the object is? I meant just because it looks like a disc-shaped object that’s landed on the Sphinx, doesn’t mean it is one…
The truth is that the origin of the Sphinx is unknown and that doesn’t really help much when you see a papyrus like this one.
The degree of erosion that we see on it suggests it dates back to 10,000 BC. It’s an ancient monument whose secrets have remained hidden for thousands of years.
It is reported that researchers have found passages into hidden chambers beneath the Sphinx and some even venture out and say that the Sphinx may hold the truth behind our very existence.
It is rightfully referred to as one of the most mysterious monuments on the surface of the planet.
When the massive monument was found for the first time, it was covered—up to its head—by sand. For centuries, most visitors and researchers who visited the area believed this was all that existed.
However, French engineer Emile Baraize was convinced that much more lies beneath the surface than even archaeologists were aware of, the reason why he commissioned an excavation to uncover the rest of the Sphinx. Finally, after 11 years of extensive digging, Baraize and his team unearthed a massive body resembling a lion, reintroducing the massive monument to the world in its full splendor. It is the largest monolithic sculpture on Earth.
Curiously, in addition to the above-mentioned papyrus which “illustrates” the disc-shaped object, there is another ancient manuscript considered as the ultimate evidence of alien contact in ancient Egypt.
Called the Tulli Papyrus, the ancient manuscript details an incredible scene.
The translation of the text according to R. Cedric Leonard states:
“In the year 22, of the third month of winter, sixth hour of the day […] among the scribes of the House of Life it was found that a strange Fiery Disk was coming in the sky. It had no head. The breath of its mouth emitted a foul odor. Its body was one rod in length and one rod in width. It had no voice. It came toward His Majesty’s house. Their heart became confused through it, and they fell upon their bellies. They [went] to the king, to report it. His Majesty [ordered that] the scrolls [located] in the House of Life be consulted. His Majesty meditated on all these events which were now going on.
After several days had passed, they became more numerous in the sky than ever. They shined in the sky more than the brightness of the sun, and extended to the limits of the four supports of heaven […] Powerful was the position of the Fiery Disks.
The army of the King looked on, with His Majesty in their midst. It was after the evening meal when the Disks ascended even higher in the sky to the south. Fish and other volatiles rained down from the sky: a marvel never before known since the foundation of the country. And His Majesty caused incense to be brought to appease the heart of Amun-Re, the god of the Two Lands. And it was [ordered] that the event [be recorded for] His Majesty in the Annals of the House of Life [to be remembered] forever.”
Could it be that the enigmatic disk-shaped object on top of the Sphinx is one of those strange Fiery Disk’s mentioned in the Tulli Papyrus?
Egyptian archaeologists have discovered a massive 2,000-year-old sealed tomb and now they want to open it to see what (or who) is inside – much to the horror of easily-spooked tweeters.
The black granite sarcophagus was uncovered in a tomb deep beneath the Egyptian city of Alexandria in early July. It’s believed to be the largest sarcophagus ever discovered in Alexandria, at 9ft long, 5ft wide and 6ft deep, says Mostafa Waziri, general secretary of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities.
The sarcophagus discovery, while intriguing, has raised many questions about why a person would require such a large tomb, what artifacts it could be hiding, and what opening the vault could unleash.
Interestingly, the sarcophagus is also covered in a thick layer of mortar, suggesting it has not been opened since the Ptolemaic period to which it dates back – between 305BC and 30BC. That means whatever is inside; a person, jewelry, clothing and anything else, would still be intact. And that was a fact not well received by some very alarmed netizens.
Also discovered in the tomb was the alabaster head of a man which some believe may represent the person buried in the coffin. Most ancient tombs discovered in Egypt were looted in one era or another, often leaving archaeologists with a limited understanding of the person inside. This untouched artifact gives the eager team a rare opportunity to uncover the mummy for themselves.
Some people suggested the sarcophagus coupled with the recent discovery of a Neolithic henge in Ireland is either a sign of an impending apocalypse… or a very extravagant marketing scheme for a new Indiana Jones movie.
Spooky guesses aside, the greatest hurdle might be figuring out how to open the tomb at all. Estimated to weigh some 30 tons, moving the vault will be no easy feat. Experts will have to either surround it with some protective dirt and lift the entire thing with a bulldozer, or open the coffin in situ and remove the lid and base separately, according to Waad Abul-Ela, head of the projects sector at the Ministry of Antiquities.
So as not to cause damage to the contents, archaeologists are considering using X-rays, computed tomography scans or other scientific means to get a glimpse of the inside before opening the lid.
Not long ago, Egyptian Archaeologists discovered a huge 2,000-year-old sealed coffin, and as you’d imagine, they want to open it to see who or what is inside.
The sarcophagus was discovered in a tomb deep under the Egyptian city of Alexandria earlier this month (July 2018). It’s believed to be the largest sarcophagus ever discovered in Alexandria. It’s 9ft long, 5ft wide and 6ft deep, according to Mostafa Waziri, the general secretary of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities.
This has sparked quite the storm on the internet, as people point to the well known “curse of the pharaohs”, a term used to refer to a supposed curse believed to be thrown upon anyone who disturbs an ancient Egyptian mummy.
In the 10 years that followed the opening of Tutankhamun’s tomb in 1922, 11 people who had at least visited the site died under sometimes myserious curcumstances, including lead researcher Howard Carter and several members of his team. Cureses involving ancient Egyptian tombs and artificats have also been the source of several Hollywood movies. Despite being on the verge of a supposed curse, other social media users are too intruiged to worry about the apparent risks.
A lot of mainstream media outlets present the idea of some sort of ‘curse’ as predominately mythological. The human mind definitely does, today that is, have trouble even comprehending how something like that could actually be real. Perhaps it invokes so much fear in one that we simply choose to ignore it, laugh it off and convince ourselves that such things may not exist.
It’s also interesting to note that the sarcophagus is covered in a thick layer of mortar, suggesting it has not been opened since the Ptolemaic period, which dates back between 305BC and 30BC. So, whatever is inside, it will still be intact…
Should It Be Opened?
Personally, I can understand the caution. If these coffins are to be left undisturbed by humanity, as instructed by the ancients, I believe these rules should be followed, and that’s probably because I am convinced in the validity of the concepts discussed in the Encyclopedia of Esoteric Studies, The Secret Teachings of All Ages, written by Manly P. Hall. In it, he describes how ancient rituals, practices, and magic were used by the ancients of different time periods, and this type of magic actually dominated in Egypt, which came to them from Atlantis.
“The masses, deprived of their birthright of understanding and grovelling in ignorance, eventually became the abject slaves of the spiritual impostors. Superstition universally prevailed and the black magicians completely dominated national affairs, with the result that humanity still suffers from the sophistries of the priestcrafts of Atlantis and Egypt.”
The model used for dating the origin of human civilization is bound to the presupposition that human history has progressed in a linear fashion from the time of tribal hunter-gatherers. As established institutions hold firm to this view, evidence contradicting the accepted model continues to grow.
