Business-as-usual relations with the United States are no longer possible, because Moscow and Washington are in fact “in the condition of an open conflict,” Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said during a discussion A World without START: What’s Next? on the platform of the Valdai discussion club.
“The US counterparts have been telling jokes the business-as-usual idiom is no longer applicable because there has been no business-as-usual with Russia for a very long time. I say that we can no longer maintain relations as before, because ‘before’ is a reference to everything that had existed prior to the period when we found ourselves in a condition of open conflict with the US,” he said.
Ryabkov pointed out that, in accordance with the legal doctrine, the interpretation of which is contained in the 1969 Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties, Russia had every right to suspend participation in the strategic arms reduction treaty (New START).
“Suspension is one of the forms of demonstrating that it is unacceptable for us to stay within the previous framework,” Ryabkov said, while commenting on US claims there was no legal opportunity for suspending participation in New START.
Earlier, Ryabkov said on TV Channel One that there could be no question of “reversing” Russia’s suspension of its participation in New START in the context of current actions by the United States.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced in his message to the Federal Assembly on February 21 that Moscow was suspending participation in the New START treaty, but not quitting it altogether. He emphasized that before resuming a discussion of further activities under the treaty the Russian side must have a clear understanding how the New START would take into account the arsenals of not only the United States, but also of other NATO nuclear powers – Britain and France. On March 1, Putin signed a law suspending Russia’s participation in New START.

We now know who blew up the Nord Stream pipelines, and it shouldn’t be a surprise to any of us. The corporate media tried very hard to convince us that the Russians were behind the sabotage when it originally happened, but that didn’t make any sense at all. It took 15 years to build the Nord Stream pipelines, and the total cost ultimately surpassed 20 billion dollars. So why would the Russians blow up pipelines that they had invested so much to construct and that were so critical to their own national economy? Sadly, many Americans unquestionably believed the narrative that was being pushed by the Biden administration, but now we have learned that it was the Biden administration that was actually behind the attack.
Legendary journalist Seymour Hersh has just published an extremely detailed article entitled “How America Took Out The Nord Stream Pipeline” in which he lays out precisely what happened. If you are not familiar with Hersh, the following is some good background information about him from Wikipedia…
Hersh first gained recognition in 1969 for exposing the My Lai Massacre and its cover-up during the Vietnam War, for which he received the 1970 Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting. During the 1970s, Hersh covered the Watergate scandal for The New York Times and revealed the clandestine bombing of Cambodia. In 2004, he reported on the U.S. military‘s mistreatment of detainees at Abu Ghraib prison. He has also won two National Magazine Awards and five George Polk Awards. In 2004, he received the George Orwell Award.[7]
As you can see, Hersh is not just another journalist.
He was winning awards long before many of you were even born.
And he would never go ahead with a story like this unless his source was rock solid.
According to Hersh’s source, the plan to blow up the pipelines came from a task force that was originally formed in December 2021…
In December of 2021, two months before the first Russian tanks rolled into Ukraine, Jake Sullivan convened a meeting of a newly formed task force—men and women from the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the CIA, and the State and Treasury Departments—and asked for recommendations about how to respond to Putin’s impending invasion.
Apparently, Sullivan made it quite clear that the task force was supposed to “come up with a plan for the destruction of the two Nord Stream pipelines”, and it was also quite clear that Sullivan was “delivering on the desires of the President”…
What became clear to participants, according to the source with direct knowledge of the process, is that Sullivan intended for the group to come up with a plan for the destruction of the two Nord Stream pipelines—and that he was delivering on the desires of the President.
For the past two years, I have been repeatedly warning my readers that Jake Sullivan is a big-time warmonger.
So it is not exactly a shock that he was directly involved in this decision.

So now that the fact that we have committed an “act of war” against Russia has been revealed for the whole world to see, how will the Russians respond?

Thanks to the foolishness of our leaders in Washington, we are now closer to nuclear war than ever before.
At the time when this attack was first being considered, there were a few officials from the CIA and the State Department that were warning about what would happen if the truth was ever revealed…
Throughout “all of this scheming,” the source said, “some working guys in the CIA and the State Department were saying, ‘Don’t do this. It’s stupid and will be a political nightmare if it comes out.’”
Now the truth has finally come out, and there will be very serious consequences.
Ultimately, Sullivan’s working group settled on a plan that involved the planting of underwater explosives.
And apparently, those underwater explosives were put into place during the BALTOPS22 military exercises in June 2022…
In a compelling, 5,000-word report about the alleged attack, Hersh claims diving experts trained at the U.S. Navy Diving and Salvage Center in Florida planted the explosives.
The divers are said to have carried out the top secret and highly-dangerous operation during BALTOPS22, a series of military exercises in the Baltic Sea carried out by 16 NATO countries. The U.S. divers reportedly used the highly-publicized, 13-day event in June 2022 as cover for their top-secret mission.
The C4 explosives attached to the pipelines were fitted with sensors that enabled them to be detonated remotely at a later date, Hersh reports.
There was concern that it would be obvious that the U.S. was behind the attack if they were set off too quickly after the BALTOPS22 military exercises concluded.
So the explosives just sat on the pipelines until they were finally remotely detonated in late September…
On September 26, 2022, a Norwegian Navy P8 surveillance plane made a seemingly routine flight and dropped a sonar buoy. The signal spread underwater, initially to Nord Stream 2 and then on to Nord Stream 1. A few hours later, the high-powered C4 explosives were triggered and three of the four pipelines were put out of commission. Within a few minutes, pools of methane gas that remained in the shuttered pipelines could be seen spreading on the water’s surface and the world learned that something irreversible had taken place.
When asked about Hersh’s bombshell story, the White House responded by calling it “completely and utterly false”…
A spokesman for the White House said the report is ‘false and complete fiction’. A spokesman for the CIA said: ‘This claim is completely and utterly false.’
But what else can they do?
If the Biden administration admits the truth, it is likely that Biden will be impeached.
Needless to say, the Russians were exceedingly interested in this report, and they are demanding answers…
Russia’s Foreign Ministry says the Hersh report reveals new facts that must be answered to, however, with spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stressing, “We have repeatedly stated Russia’s position on the involvement of the United States and NATO, noting that they did not hide it, bragging to the whole world about their intention to destroy the civilian infrastructure through which Europe received Russian energy resources.”
If the Russians had attacked us in such a way, the American people would be crying out for revenge.
And rightfully so.
The recklessness of our leaders has pushed us to the brink of nuclear war, and as I discussed in a previous article, the United States is definitely not prepared for such a conflict.
Sadly, most Americans don’t even realize what is going on.

The war in Ukraine is not just about Ukraine and Russia with the U.S. and NATO acting as seemingly benevolent supporters of Ukraine, as the Western media portray.
The United States and its NATO allies are deeply involved in the conflict.
The military withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021 – after 20 years of futile occupation – was a calculated “reorganization of firepower” against Russia, says Pepe Escobar.
Ukraine is merely a proxy and ultimately cannon fodder for American imperial planners.
This war is part of a bigger geopolitical confrontation between the U.S. and Russia, China and other nations that are pushing for the emergence of a multipolar world. That is a multipolar world no longer under the hegemony of U.S.-dominated Western capitalism.
Pepe Escobar assesses the bigger picture and outlines how the U.S. imperial state is in “panic mode” to shore up the collapsing American-controlled global capitalist system, and in particular the privileged position of the U.S. dollar.

Those behind the Throne are never more dangerous than when they have their backs against the wall.
Their power is slipping away, fast: Militarily, via NATO’s progressive humiliation in Ukraine; Financially, sooner rather than later, most of the Global South will want nothing to do with the currency of a bankrupt rogue giant; Politically, the global majority is taking decisive steps to stop obeying a rapacious, discredited, de facto minority.
So now those behind the Throne are plotting to at least try to stall the incoming disaster on the military front.
As confirmed by a high-level US establishment source, a new directive on NATO vs. Russia in Ukraine was relayed to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Blinken, in terms of actual power, is nothing but a messenger boy for the Straussian neocons and neoliberals who actually run US foreign policy.
The secretary of state was instructed to relay the new directive – a sort of message to the Kremlin – via mainstream print media, which was promptly published by the Washington Post.
In the elite US mainstream media division of labor, the New York Times is very close to the State Department. and the Washington Post to the CIA. In this case though the directive was too important, and needed to be relayed by the paper of record in the imperial capital. It was published as an Op-Ed (behind paywall).
The novelty here is that for the first time since the start of Russia’s February 2022 Special Military Operation (SMO) in Ukraine, the Americans are actually proposing a variation of the “offer you can’t refuse” classic, including some concessions which may satisfy Russia’s security imperatives.
Crucially, the US offer totally bypasses Kiev, once again certifying that this is a war against Russia conducted by Empire and its NATO minions – with the Ukrainians as mere expandable proxies.
‘Please don’t go on the offensive’
The Washington Post’s old school Moscow-based correspondent John Helmer has provided an important service, offering the full text of Blinken’s offer, of course extensively edited to include fantasist notions such as “US weapons help pulverize Putin’s invasion force” and a cringe-worthy explanation: “In other words, Russia should not be ready to rest, regroup and attack.”
The message from Washington may, at first glance, give the impression that the US would admit Russian control over Crimea, Donbass, Zaporozhye, and Kherson – “the land bridge that connects Crimea and Russia” – as a fait accompli.
Ukraine would have a demilitarized status, and the deployment of HIMARS missiles and Leopard and Abrams tanks would be confined to western Ukraine, kept as a “deterrent against further Russian attacks.”
What may have been offered, in quite hazy terms, is in fact a partition of Ukraine, demilitarized zone included, in exchange for the Russian General Staff cancelling its yet-unknown 2023 offensive, which may be as devastating as cutting off Kiev’s access to the Black Sea and/or cutting off the supply of NATO weapons across the Polish border.
The US offer defines itself as the path towards a “just and durable peace that upholds Ukraine’s territorial integrity.” Well, not really. It just won’t be a rump Ukraine, and Kiev might even retain those western lands that Poland is dying to gobble up.
The possibility of a direct Washington-Moscow deal on “an eventual postwar military balance” is also evoked, including no Ukraine membership of NATO. As for Ukraine itself, the Americans seem to believe it will be a “strong, non-corrupt economy with membership in the European Union.”
Whatever remains of value in Ukraine has already been swallowed not only by its monumentally corrupt oligarchy, but most of all, investors and speculators of the BlackRock variety. Assorted corporate vultures simply cannot afford to lose Ukraine’s grain export ports, as well as the trade deal terms agreed with the EU before the war. And they’re terrified that the Russian offensive may capture Odessa, the major seaport and transportation hub on the Black Sea – which would leave Ukraine landlocked.
There’s no evidence whatsoever that Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the entire Russian Security Council – including its Secretary Nikolai Patrushev and Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev – have reason to believe anything coming from the US establishment, especially via mere minions such as Blinken and the Washington Post. After all the stavka – a moniker for the high command of the Russian armed forces – regard the Americans as “non-agreement capable,” even when an offer is in writing.
This walks and talks like a desperate US gambit to stall and present some carrots to Moscow in the hope of delaying or even cancelling the planned offensive of the next few months.
Even old school, dissident Washington operatives – not beholden to the Straussian neocon galaxy – bet that the gambit will be a nothing burger: in classic “strategic ambiguity” mode, the Russians will continue on their stated drive of demilitarization, denazification and de-electrification, and will “stop” anytime and anywhere they see fit east of the Dnieper. Or beyond.
What the Deep State really wants
Washington’s ambitions in this essentially NATO vs. Russia war go well beyond Ukraine. And we’re not even talking about preventing a Russia-China-Germany Eurasian union or a peer competitor nightmare; let’s stick with prosaic issues on the Ukrainian battleground.
The key “recommendations” – military, economic, political, diplomatic – were detailed in an Atlantic Council strategy paper late last year.
And in another one, under “War scenario 1: The war continues in its current tempo,” we find the Straussian neocon policy fully spelled out.
It’s all here: from “marshaling support and military-assistance transfers to Kyiv sufficient to enable it to win” to “increase the lethality of military assistance transferred to include fighter aircraft that would enable Ukraine to control its airspace and attack Russian forces therein; and missile technology with range sufficient to reach into Russian territory.”
From training the Ukrainian military “to use Western weapons, electronic warfare, and offensive and defensive cyber capabilities, and to seamlessly integrate new recruits in the service” to buttressing “defenses on the front lines, near the Donbass region,” including “combat training focusing on irregular warfare.”
Added to “imposing secondary sanctions on all entities doing business with the Kremlin,” we reach of course the Mother of All Plunders: “Confiscate the $300 billion that the Russian state holds in overseas accounts in the United States and EU and use seized monies to fund reconstruction.”
The reorganization of the SMO, with Putin, Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov, and General Armageddon in their new, enhanced roles is derailing all these elaborate plans.
The Straussians are now in deep panic. Even Blinken’s number two, Russophobic warmonger Victoria “F**k the EU” Nuland, has admitted to the US Senate there will be no Abrams tanks on the battlefield before Spring (realistically, only in 2024). She also promised to “ease sanctions” if Moscow “returns to negotiations.” Those negotiations were scotched by the Americans themselves in Istanbul in the Spring of 2022.
Nuland also called the Russians to “withdraw their troops.” Well, that at least offers some comic relief compared with the panic oozing from Blinken’s “offer you can’t refuse.” Stay tuned for Russia’s non-response response.

According to the new poll, Canadians most likely to view socialism positively are aged 35-44, with 65 percent in that age group expressing that view. More years of formal education also tracked with more positive views of socialism; the highest levels of support (65 percent) came from those with a post-graduate degree.

A new poll out released in August finds that 58 percent of Canadians have a positive view of socialism, and 18 percent have a very positive view of it.
The survey of 1,733 voters was conducted by Forum Research July 26th-28th, 2019, roughly two months before Canadians head to the polls for the general election.
According to the new poll, Canadians most likely to view socialism positively are aged 35-44, with 65 percent in that age group expressing that view. More years of formal education also tracked with more positive views of socialism; the highest levels of support (65 percent) came from those with a post-graduate degree.
Those planning on voting for Canada’s New Democrats (NDP), led by Jagmeet Singh, were most likely to view socialism positively at 85 percent. Supporters of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party were also likely (74 percent) to view it favorably, while those backing the Conservatives –28 percent–were the least likely to have a positive view of socialism.
The Forum poll also shed light on Canadians’ views of capitalism, and how their views on the two issues contrast with those of Americans.
The majority of Canadians–58 percent–said they viewed capitalism positively.
That opinion was held strongest by those making over $100,000 (68 percent), those with a post-graduate degree (62 percent), and those most likely to vote for the Conservatives (77 percent).
To contrast the findings with Americans’ views, Forum pointed to a recent Pew Research poll that showed 42 percent of Americans have a positive view of socialism, while 65 percent have a positive view of capitalism.
Sixty-five percent of Democrats had a positive view of socialism compared to just 27 percent of Republicans.
Americans’ views on capitalism revealed a partisan divide as well, with 78 percent of Republicans expressing a positive view compared to 55 percent of Democrats.
“Unlike our neighbors to the south,” said Forum Research president Dr. Lorne Bozinoff, “Canadians hold overall positive opinions of both socialism and capitalism, but see socialism far more favorably than do our American friends.”
“Both Canadians and Americans alike see capitalism favorably,” added Bozinoff. “While Canadian’s support for socialism and capitalism are divided along party lines, it is not nearly as drastic as shown in the United States.”

Russia does not speculate but knows exactly which representatives of the Ukrainian Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) made a dirty bomb and how they considered using it. Philosopher, political analyst, and leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan stated this on October 26 in the Evening with Vladimir Solovyov program on the Russia One TV channel.
The guest and program host discussed NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg’s statement that Russia is accusing Kiev of preparing a provocation with a dirty bomb because Russia itself wants to use it.
Kurginyan said that Russia does not accuse, Russia knows.
“We know exactly where, in what place, how, since when, which representatives of the Ukrainian Main Intelligence Directorate [GUR] made this dirty bomb, how they considered using it, [just in case] anyone thinks that these are some hypotheses or bold exaggerations,” he said.
According to the political scientist, first and foremost, Russia’s system is capable of obtaining the necessary information, and secondly, there are some things that you can’t keep hidden.
The fact that Western countries accuse Russia of intending to use a dirty bomb means only one thing: they will do it themselves.
The political scientist spoke about the concept under which the USA can do this. According to him, several people familiar with the concept – founder and CEO of the EastWest Institute John Edwin Mroz, and American journalist Flora Lewis – stated in private conversations that the United States will resort to nuclear war in Europe in case of dangerous rapprochement between Russia and Europe, specifically Germany, because then a powerful competitor against the United States with both resources and technology will form.
Kurginyan recalled that former head of the CIA’s Directorate of Intelligence Ray Cline admitted that there is a concept in the USA according to which the US Defense Intelligence Agency may, for example, blow up a plane carrying US citizens if it helps to turn any global processes in the right direction for the United States.
